With the school year ending, parents might have a hard time getting their kids to read this summer. We hope that we can help with that! So we're bringing back Series Saturday and spotlighting Margaret Peterson Haddix's The Missing series.
Science Fiction, Tween, Adventure, Historical
Location in Howard Miller:
Tween, TWEEN HADDIX
Meet the Characters:
?Jonah has always known that he was adopted. His adoptive parents believe that being open with him is the best way for him to process his identity. He enjoys his life, even if his sister Katherine (a "miracle" baby born a year after his adoption) is the most annoying person in the world! So he cannot understand his new friend Chip's reaction to finding out he was adopted as well. Chip is angry and then frightened when both he and Jonah receive anonymous letters telling them that they are "the missing." Jonah is logical while Chip and Katherine are impulsive, making the trio an odd team in their mission to discover who sent the letters. They quickly realize there are more "missing" and that they're all being gathered in their town for some unknown reason...
Number in the Series:
There are 8 books in the series.
This series is difficult to describe without giving away the main twist of the first book, but we'll try! This series is about a group of adopted children who end up in a tri-city area of Ohio, seemingly brought there by fate. Then the anonymous notes start arriving. Jonah, Chip, and Katherine decide to investigate the notes and their past. Their investigation leads them to the F.B.I., but this creates more questions than answers. Were these children given up for adoption, or stolen from their parents? These books are not as dark as the covers imply and they are not scary. They're just well-written Tween science fiction books that will capture the imagination of children from 4th grade and older!
